Ricovir Em, manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, is used to treat the symptoms of HIV infection and as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to reduce the risk of contracting HIV through sexual activity. It works by preventing the transmission of HIV in the body.
This medicine is formulated using two antiretroviral medications: Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate.

Dosage and Administration of Ricovir Tablets
To Treat HIV Infection
Adults and Children Weighing 35 kg or More
- Take one tablet once a day
- Each tablet has 200 mg of emtricitabine and 300 mg of tenofovir
For Children (17–35 kg)
- Dosage must be determined by a doctor
- Children must be able to swallow a whole tablet
For Children (28–35 kg)
- One tablet daily (167 mg Emtricitabine + 250 mg Tenofovir)
For Children (22–28 kg)
- One tablet daily (133 mg Emtricitabine + 200 mg Tenofovir)
For Children (17–22 kg)
- One tablet daily (100 mg Emtricitabine + 150 mg Tenofovir)
To Prevent HIV Infection (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis)
- Adults and children weighing 35 kg or more can consume one Ricovir EM tablet daily, which contains 200 mg of emtricitabine and 300 mg of tenofovir
- Children weighing less than 35 kg should contact a doctor before taking Ricovir Em for PrEP
How to Take Ricovir EM Tablets
- Take the medication orally
- No need to crush or chew this medication; swallow the tablet with water.
- Can be taken with or without food
- If it upsets your stomach, take it with a meal
- To ensure maximum effectiveness, take each dose exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Missed Dose
- Take the missed dose as soon as you can remember it
- If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosage schedule
- Do not take 2 doses at the same time
- If unsure, contact your doctor for proper guidance
Overdose Warning
- Do not take an extra dose to compensate for the missed one
