Its active ingredient is Metoclopramide, a dopamine antagonist that works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain’s chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) and also by increasing the sensitivity of gastrointestinal smooth muscle to acetylcholine, which enhances upper gastrointestinal motility. This dual action helps to relieve feelings of sickness and promotes faster emptying of the stomach.
Perinorm Tablet 10 is indicated for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with various conditions, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, post-operative recovery, and gastrointestinal disorders. It can also be used to manage symptoms of gastroparesis, a condition where the stomach empties slowly, often seen in diabetic patients.
The typical dosage for adults is one tablet (10mg) taken 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime, as needed.
